    Great book on a turbulent time in our history

    I read Volume I of Robert Caro's biographies of LBJ when it was published in 1988 and found the narrative very compelling. I have not read Volumes II and III but am currently enjoying reading "The Passage of Power". The author's deep research into this period of LBJ's life and the politics of that turbulent period in our history make for a very good narrative. Much of what the author reveals in this book is not widely known and differs from has appeared in books published from biographers of JFK and RFK,

    This work is an astute and unique study in modern political biography.

    Pulitzer prize winning author Robert A. Caro has scored another coup in this well researched political biography of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the fourth volume of Caro's works on LBJ. Caro's meticulous research and clean, flowing writing syle contribute to a vivid portrait of the period from 1958 to 1964 in LBJ's political fortunes. Up close and personal we see LBJ angling for the presidency and ending up as John F. Kennedy's running mate in the 1960 election despite Robert Kennedy's vigorous opposition. Later, with the assassination of JFK the presidency is thrust into LBJ's hands.     A writing of true quality, fact & realism; one must sit down & expe

    It was a gift for a lady almost 80 years of age that has read volumes on history and the presidents throughout the years. She mentioned it. Thus, I purchased it for her. She is already pages deep into the 700 plus pages of text and photos. I previewed it myself. Excellent author with a notable history of writing in a splendid fashion. Sometimes it reads very historically and to the point; and, at others more like a novel. Truly superb.
