Meanwhile, police officers (Woody Harrelson and Channing Tatum) are ordered to disperse the groups using tear gas, but when that fails to drive away the crowds, they're forced to resort to more violent behavior. Weaved into the main story are subplots involving characters that have been directly affected by the riots – like a pregnant woman (Charlize Theron) injured on her way home from work; a TV anchor (Connie Nielsen) enticed into joining the protest; and an AIDS researcher (Rade Serbedzija) whose potentially world-changing presentation is delayed – but none of their stories is as compelling (or as well-developed) as that of the activists. Martin Henderson and Michelle Rodriguez’s characters, in particular, are probably the most interesting of the bunch, since they’re involved in just about every major event throughout the course of the protest. The opening scene – where they're suspended from a dock crane hundreds of feet in the air so that they can hang a protest banner – may feel out of place in the otherwise grounded events that follow, but it’s exactly the kind of setpiece that Townsend needs to hook the audience – and it does just that. Battle in Seattle
"Battle in Seattle" is a gripping mix of drama and documentary. It tells the story from the perspective of a group of activists and a policeman. It also has a side plot of a delegate from an African country, and a spokesperson from a well known charity organisation. Such comprehensive coverage from various angles gives "Battle in Seattle" a balanced view on the heated subject. The story is emotional and gripping, and there is much to be pondered upon. I feel sorry for the woman who happened to be standing at the wrong place at the wrong time, and the charity spokesperson who cannot make people realise what causes are more worthy. This never happened.
A fine movie, but made in poor taste. They fail to mention that more than half of the original "protesters" were paid to be there and most of mob came because they thought there would be a riot. The only thing that really happened that was in the movie was the over-abuse of riot equipment just for kicks. My friend got shot in the stomach with a rubber bullet for singing Xmas carols.
